DIY motivations |
I’m an avid DIYer, the eagerness to and
appreciation of artistic creations and furniture sometimes even overwhelm me
and because I love to explore and most of the time I don’t want to spend a lot
of money on something that I might not like once I get it. But most of all it
has to be because I love the intrinsic value I get when I realise that I made
something all by myself and that feeling has fueled a lot of unnecessary
little “projects” with some never really amounting to anything and some
becoming all I ever raved about. The
first project I ever did was when I learnt to sew from watching my mother sit
on her electric sewing machine at every chance she got and the amazing
creations that came out of the many fabrics she had lying around. I managed to
get help with designing an African print shirt pattern and eventually put
everything together on my own, the experience felt exhausting and going around
in circles but eventually it was done and it was all worth it. That feeling was
so out of this world I wore that shirt all the time and all I wanted for someone to ask me where
I got it just so I could say I made it, and at times I didn’t care that no one
asked, I would tell them anyway
hahaha. After a month of owning
that shirt, my girlfriend decided to keep it for sentimental values and
unfortunately we broke up not long after, I never got that shirt and that was
it. Anyway, it is essential to invest in
oneself and just try to give your creativity a chance, it’s a great savy
feeling and most of all surprising yourself is a pretty good human feeling.
