Family: The true meaning of the word and what it entails

It is the one dynamic in this world thought to have the strongest bond amongst human beings, well after love… but that’s a story for another day. Family ideally, is meant to provide comfort, love, support and a very strong pillar that impacts how children develop into full grown human beings. This is not always the case entirely and while the saying, “we can’t choose family” sounds unimaginable, it is genuine, just like how we can’t choose who we love. My family is slightly unorthodox in the sense that I did not grow up living with two parents together and even though I can’t blame my parents’ separation on how life was and the impact the idea of family had on my life from an age of 10 that experience has certainly influenced how I think family should be. Love and nurturing is a big part of child raising, peace, stability and understanding within a family earns its functionality and I believe those are important aspects of a family. But like I said, mine is slightly unorthodox and I have learnt a lot from them, what is dysfunctional in the eyes of some can be functional overtime, when I became an adult and realised life is not black and white but a series of grey areas that illuminate sacrifices, battles, triumphs and most importantly love, care and understanding to adapt to change as well as doing everything you can to make everything better.  This piece is comprised of distorted thoughts that leave a trail of emotion, authenticity, advice and hope to ensure mankind that nothing beats family and the bond that it carries is worth a lifetime, whatever works in a family is to be appreciated just as that, without judgment and comparison to the next family, one can realise the true comfort, love and support that comes from family.
